วันนี้ (21 เมษายน) ครบรอบ 8 ปีการจากไปของ Prince อีกหนึ่งอัจฉริยะทางดนตรีที่หาใครเทียบได้ยาก เพื่อเป็นการรำลึกถึง Prince ผมเลยขอนำคำพูดของเขาที่คิดว่าน่าสนใจมาให้อ่านกัน
“I don’t see why I should give my new music to iTunes or anyone else. They won’t pay me an advance for it and then they get angry when they can’t get it.”
("ฉันมองไม่ออกว่าทำไมฉันควรมอบเพลงของฉันให้ iTune หรือคนอื่นๆ พวกเขาไม่เห็นจ่ายเงินฉันล่วงหน้า แล้วก็มาโกรธฉันอีก เมื่อไม่ได้มัน")
“So much has been written about me, and people don’t know what’s right and what’s wrong. I’d rather let them stay confused.”

(บางครั้งไอเดียมันก็มาเร็วมากจนฉันต้องหยุดทำเพลงหนึ่งเพื่อไปทำอีกเพลง แต่ฉันไม่ลืมเพลงแรกหรอก มันยังรออยู่ตรงนั้น มันเหมือนความจริง มันจะหาเราจนพบและยกเราขึ้น และถ้ามันไม่ถูกต้อง มันก็จะละลายหมือนเม็ดทรายบนชายหาด)
“My father left his piano at the house when he left, and I wasn’t allowed to play it when he was there because I wasn’t as good as him. So when he left, I was determined to get as good as him, and I taught myself how to play music, and I just stuck with it, and I did it all the time.”
(พ่อขอฉันทิ้งเปียโนไว้ในบ้านตอนที่เขาจากไป และฉันไม่เคยได้รับอนุญาตให้เล่นตอนที่เขายังอยู่ตรงนั้น เพราะว่าฉันไม่เก่งเท่าพ่อ ดังนั้นพอพ่อฉันจากไป ฉันเลยตั้งใจจะให้เก่งเท่าเขา และฉันก็เรียนรู้เล่นดนตรีเอง และฉันก็ติดมัน และฉันเล่นมันตลอดเวลา)
ได้อ่านแล้ว คนดนตรีคงได้รับแรงบันดาลใจไม่มากก็น้อยนะครับ อ่านเสร็จว่าจะหยิบอัลบั้ม Purple Rain มาฟังสักหน่อย..รำลึกถึง Prince กัน วันนี้ในอดีต
